Replace this with your Artist StatementI’m building a body of work that explores the restrictions of purity culture in a way that
exposes its absurdity, specifically about how that pertains to the way we go through life and
view ourselves. The obsession with purity has buried itself so deeply into our culture that it
leaves even our most personal decisions under scrutiny and moralization; leaving many,
such as myself, frozen between decisions and always questioning whether others will think
they made the “correct” decision. This pressure drives individuals towards conformity in
order to avoid rejection, rather than personal fulfillment.
My work mainly makes use of silkscreen and relief print as they’ve been known to be
popular choices for low-income and marginalized groups for their aƯordability and ability to
allow independent publishers to reach a large audience. Print as a medium meshes very well
with my goal to make my art accessible and easily spread, not to mention its versatility
allows me to create everything from massive posters to palm-sized zines. This is well
displayed in my current project, an edition of zines titled [placeholder], which explores how
these pressures to be perfect and conform lead to a missing sense of identity and
personhood.
